Sightseeing in Lower Hutt. For a few hours nature took over the carpark

All of the official warnings said to stay away from the flood and broken windows but we could not miss a chance to document. There were more people on the bank than usually seen on a Tuesday afternoon, like a flock of tourists at a well-known attraction. Apparently the river had not overflown since the 90s, after which they built these high banks which usually look quite pointless. The flood had blocked roads in and out and we had nothing to do but take a stroll and gawk. There are several cellphones with photos nearly exactly the same as mine, give or take a few steps to the right or left. It seems the tui outside the supermarket was in the same place as usual the whole time.
